![]() | Role of the Board The role of the Board of Directors is to oversee the program at its three sites: Wyandanch, Amityville, and Huntington Station. Responsibilities of the Board include: the monitoring of all financial matters, ongoing program evaluation, and a myriad of activities to ensure the continued success of The Opening Word. |
For the past six years I have had the privilege of being part of this Board. It has been a gratifying experience for me, especially working in partnership with fellow Board members, Sr. Lenore, the Sisters of St. Dominic, and the generous and ever present-volunteers. It is an evident reality at every Board meeting that we are all committed to the women who struggle daily to make their dreams a reality. The effort they expend to master the skills they need to succeed is truly edifying. ~ Virginia Campbell, PhD, Chair Composition of the Board of Directors The Board of Directors consists of 13 members, and the Executive Director and Secretary Treasurer of the Program. The members were chosen to represent important areas of expertise needed to help administer the program. Among them are professional educators, administrators, professors, teachers, and a psychologist. Important skills are contributed by Board Members which are lawyers, business executives, financial administrators, and two members of the Sisters of St. Dominic Central Council . Each member brings their experience to help make informed decisions for the well being of the program and its students. Their advice and input are critical to the successful continuation of the Opening Word Program. |
